I'm Tom Shand, a dietitian for Trailblazer Nutrition. This blog that I will be writing on Trailblazer's website is going to be about my nutritional and training journey to completing a northern hemisphere spring marathon. I've got my eye on the London marathon 2014, but need to confirm a starting spot in that, which isn't a walk in the park.
I'm going to focus on the sports nutrition side of things, but will obviously be touching on aspects of everyday eating, and will also look at some of the basics of exercise science in order to talk about my training programme.
Over the next 9 months or so I hope that you get to know me better, and maybe I will get to know some of you through your posts on this blog. I hope to give you an insight into my nutritional principles, values, and attitudes, and impart some practical nutritional advice for you.
I also want to learn what you guys think is important for endurance nutrition, and hopefully through your comments/questions on this blog you will help shape the nutrition plans that I create so that they can be even more personalised and useful.
I think that will do for now, I’m just dipping my toe into the murky whirlpool of blogging, and I want to avoid drowning early in the piece. But it seems to be common practise to end a blog with a question. I think it is supposed to encourage you to comment, hint hint. So, what did you learn after completing your first endurance event? I’ll get the ball rolling…
